Today's Topic: Entering/formatting Patron Email Addresses
This week's topic was triggered by a spate of bounced email messages...Do you add or modify patron records in WorkFlows? If so, read on…
We all know that all email addresses have a standard format: username@some.domain. However, how software manipulates these addresses varies greatly. You have probably seen emails formatted like "mailto:someone@somewhere.org" or "Some One <someone@somewhere.org>" --these are examples of email addresses that have been modified by, or for, other software.
Similarly, how software handles multiple emails also varies. In WorkFlows, multiple addresses must be separated by a comma and no space. Remember also, if you get a bounced email forwarded to you, you need to remove the bad address using the Red X--not add question marks, or backspace out the existing text.
In Outlook, the default is to separate email addresses with a semi-colon & a space:
But you can tell Outlook to accept a comma:

Most email software makes it easy to add multiple addresses using tab, comma, semicolon, etc. It is other softwares whose primary function is to do something else, but also happens to send email (like WorkFlows), that tends to be more picky about email formats.
