Salutations!  Don't forget to wear purple for St. Urho's Day tomorrow, March 16th.

Today's Topic: What to do when you get “Response Truncated” Error in WorkFlows & Editing Multiple tabs in Excel

WorkFlows: Sometimes, esp after getting a new computer or having to reinstall WF, you will get an error pop up with the phrase “Response Truncated.”  This means that whatever you are trying to display is too “big” for WorkFlows to handle. The way to fix it is...:See more...

  1. Log out of WorkFlows. Do not save Properties if it asks.
  2. Log back into WorkFlows.
  3. Go to Preferences...Desktop Setup
  4. Change the Max Response Size to something over 1 million (no commas)
  5. Max Response Size Setting
  6. Immediately log out of WorkFlows. Say “Yes” to Save Properties if it asks.
  7. Log back into WorkFlows.

Excel Tip: You can make a change across multiple tabs at once—even ALL tabs at once with only a couple of clicks.  This is great when you have a spread sheet with multiple tabs of very similar data (like a year’s worth of stats reports with a tab for each month, or each library). The trick is, the exact change will be made on each selected tab, so if you want to delete Row 33 because it is blank, you need to be sure Row 33 is blank on all tabs because it will delete Row 33 from all sheets.  But it is great for formatting! You just need to select/highlight the tabs you want to work with.  There are 2 ways to select multiple tabs:

  1. CTRL-Click each tab you want to edit, OR
  2. Right-click any tab and at the bottom of the list is the option to “Select All Sheets.”

You will know they are selected because they will be highlighted (usually white instead of default grey).   Then, go into one of the selected sheets and make the change you want—it will effect the same change on all highlighted tabs.

They say a picture is worth 1,000 words, so here is a video that demonstrates the above: http://somup.com/creo2xbX05
