Password Update Guide

Passwords must be at least 12 characters long and have 3 of the 4 following criteria: uppercase, lowercase, number, and symbol. I recommend using a short phrase with punctuation as your password because it will fulfill the requirements and be memorable.

Examples:
Green juice, rocks?
Consider the pangolin...
My brain hurts!

There are computer programs that hackers use designed to rapidly guess commonly used passwords and password methods. To avoid getting hacked, be aware of the password pitfalls.

Password DON'Ts:

  • Don't use any part of your name or email address in your password.
  • Don't use the word 'library' or the name of your library in your password.
  • Don't use the current year in your password.
  • Don't just add a number to last year's password to make the new one.

Passwords last for 12 months from the time they were last set before expiring. Passwords can also be changed at any time by hitting ctrl+alt+del on your keyboard and selecting the 'Change a password' option while logged into the computer as yourself.

For users that only use Office365 online and do not log into the computer as themselves, the password will have to be reset on my end of the network. Please contact me or have your supervisor contact me to coordinate this.

I can also tell you when your password was last changed. In days past Microsoft would give you a pop-up notice letting you know the expiration date was coming, but that isn't happening anymore.

When you change your password, you will have to use your chosen multi-factor authentication method to verify your identity, so be prepared.
