Salutations! This week's 'Minder is about "Patron" Records.......and an Office365 tip.
1. There are a lot of "patron" records in the system that are NOT real patrons—almost 400 of them. They are users required for the Symphony software to function properly. It is very important never to modify these records in any way! This includes all the WD, DA, IP (Withdrawn, Damaged, In-Process, users respectively). Read more....The "username" you use to log into WorkFlows is one of these special records. There are some that have names like “NEENAH Technical Services” or “BERLIN Public User.” They have IDs like OMROPUB, or ME-HOLDS. Each library has one record for their library....like "KINGSTON (MILL POND PUBLIC LIBRARY)" with a Profile of INTRANSIT. Without that library user, Workflows won't let anything go or come intransit, it won't let anything get checkedout or discharged!
Here are some of the common system users that each library has--some libraries have even more:
2. Office Tip: In Excel, Word, Outlook, Powerpoint, and probably other Office 365 products, you can use CTRL-N to open a new document--be it a new email, new spreadsheet, new presentation, whatever.
