Library Notices byText Message (SMS) -- Shoutbomb

Shoutbomb is a third party text messaging service which allows you to use your mobile phone to receive text notices about:

  • holds that are available to pickup
  • items that are due soon, overdue, or renewable
  • fines or fees that are associated with your library account

The signup/setup process is all done by text on your mobile phone.  Simply follow the prompts within the message to manage your account.

The Library does not charge a fee for this service, but your mobile phone plan’s regular text messaging rates apply.

A text will be sent only when activity on your account triggers a message.

PLEASE NOTE: Choosing to use the Shoutbomb service does not change the email, phone, or mail notifications you have been receiving from the Library. This service is an additional method of managing your Library account.

What do you need?

  • A mobile phone and wireless service that can send text messages.  Many cell phones can do this. It does not have to be a smartphone.
  • The barcode number from your library card and the PIN for your account.

Using the Shoutbomb Service

In all the examples below, only type the one word or command in the body of the text. Extra words will cause your texts to fail.

How to sign up:

  1. Send a text message to the number 833-568-7242
  2. In the body of the text please type SIGNUP and then send the message.
  3. Shoutbomb will send you messages.
  4. Reply to the messages from Shoutbomb, asking for your library card number (13 or 14 digits, no spaces), your PIN code, and your email address. If you don’t want to provide your email, then just type the word NONE.

Basic commands--all sent to 833-568-7242

  • To stop receiving text messages, send a message to 833-568-7242 and type QUIT in the body of the message.
  • To add additional library cards to your text message account, type ADDCARD in the body of the message and then follow the prompts. To remove a card, type DROPCARD.
  • To have Shoutbomb resend your last received message, type RESEND.
  • If you need help with commands, type HELP to view a list of available commands.

You can choose which notices you want to receive by text:

By default, the following notices are turned on; however, texting the related keyword to 833-568-7242 will turn that type of notice off. Texting the keyword again, will turn that type of notice back on.

  • Courtesy Notice, the keyword is REMINDER - this is a notice that things will soon be due.
  • Overdue Notice, the keyword is OVERDUE - this is a notice that things are already overdue.
  • Fees/Fines Notice, the keyword is FEES - this is a notice that there are fines or fees owed.
  • Hold Notice, the keyword is PICKUP - this is a notice that you have holds ready to be picked up.
  • Renewal, the keyword is RENEW - this is a notice that things will soon be due, and you can renew them.

Your messages from Shoutbomb will prompt you to respond with optional commands including:

  • HL: Get a list of holds that are ready for pick up
  • RA: Renew all eligible items
  • RI: Get a list of items that are coming due and that cannot be renewed
  • RL: Get a list of items you can renew
  • OA: Renew all overdue materials
  • OI: Get a list of items that are overdue and cannot be renewed
  • OL: Get a list of overdue items you can renew

If you have difficulties using Shoutbomb, read the FAQ here or email/text winnefox.support@shoutbomb.com

Because Shoutbomb is a separate service not affiliated with your library or Winnefox Library System, we are unable to tell whether or not a text notice was sent or received.  Remember, you will still receive whatever email, phone, paper notices you would normally get from the library. Winnefox Library System is using Shoutbomb to provide you an additional notification option to help you manage your library account easier: on your phone, wherever you may be.
