Serving the Legal Information Needs of the Public

Location: Ethel Everhard Memorial Library, 117 East Third Street, Westfield, WI (map & driving directions)

This workshop is planned specifically for libraries in counties in the 6th Judicial District:
Adams, Columbia, Green Lake, Marquette, Portage, Sauk, Waushara, and Wood County

In recent years we’ve witnessed a growth in the number of people wishing to represent themselves in court, mainly in family and small claims cases, and we wish to make things easier for them by providing more readily understandable information. For the past several years the Wisconsin Supreme Court, its staff, and court officials at the local level have worked closely with the State Law Library and others to develop websites, forms and other legal materials to enhance services to the public.

This workshop will be a valuable opportunity for public librarians to meet personally with local judges, and state and local court officials. This workshop program also contains a follow-up component where local court staff will visit participating libraries to strengthen the legal knowledge base and help create a relationship of cooperation between the library and the court system.
