Schedule:

9:00-9:15 – Registration and coffee

9:15-11:30 – Communication Mistakes Only Really Really Smart or Busy People Make
Are you a degreed library professional, devoted scholar and researcher, talented and experienced technician, or just a smart cookie at your library? Intelligent, accomplished busy people sometimes cut corners when it comes to workplace relationships, unknowingly impacting other people's productivity and and their own career.  Learn why empathy can get you farther than your IQ score, and learn how to identify and eliminate bad habits in your in-person and virtual interactions.

11:30-12:30 – Lunch ($5) and Networking

12:30-2:00 – Words That Work: Details Count
Is it possible that one word can make a big difference in how people respond to your requests, whether the are co-workers or library users? We have tested these words in tough workplaces with angry citizens - not just at the circulation desk of public libraries - and the results are consistently excellent. Do you want to calm people down without sounding condescending (and calm yourself down as well) and help them listen, learn, and act appropriately? Learn specific words that can improve your influence in sticky situations.

2:00-3:00 – FVLC general meeting
