Virtual & distance courses

Winnefox promotes 3 major ways to learn skills and earn CEUs through web-based "e-learning":

1. Web-based training through MindLeaders:

Subscribe to a course group and you can take all of the courses listed as many times as you like, as often as you like, any place you like, any time you like, for a one-year period. They offer over 700 courses, and their Demo Courses are available to try before you buy.

Course groups you can subscribe to:

  • End User Desktop Computing -- courses in Office programs such as Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access & Windows
    $59.95 (185 courses in 35 series)
  • Technical General -- advanced technical courses in programming and operating systems
    $119.95 (223 courses in 32 series)
  • Technical MCSE -- courses for earning Microsoft Certification
    $119.95 (197 courses in 25 series)
  • Technical Web Development -- Web design courses teaching HTML, Java, PhotoShop, Flash, etc.
    $119.95 (124 courses in 20 series)

Each course is divided into units, and you are quizzed throughout each. If you score 70% or above in all the unit quizes, MindLeaders awards you a certificate with your name and the course you took to print out. Each course remembers your place when you exit out, so you can work at your own pace.

1. UW-Madison SLIS Virtual & Distance Courses:

2. BadgerLink Training -- web-based training in the EbscoHost (magazines, Searchasaurus, etc.) and ProQuest (newspapers) databases.

3. NetLibrary E-Books Online Course -- free to Winnefox library staff. Register by sending an email message to Mark Beatty mbeatty@wils.wisc.edu. Delivered using a courseware system called WebCT, it's 100% web-based. The course consists of 4 lessons and is delivered at the rate of one lesson per week.

  • Reading NetLibrary E-Books
 
3. Correspondence courses:
  • Collection Development (3 CEUs)
  • Basic Reference (3 CEUs)
  • Basic Public Library Management from a Services Point of View (3 CEUs)
  • Public Library Administration (3 CEUs)
