Changes in call numbers for magazines

Because the Sirsi system arranges magazine issues alphabetically by the call number (April, August, December,ı), magazine call numbers will need to entered differently than in the past.
To get the call numbers to display by date, the call number will begin with the date of the issue in numeric format, followed by the issue in alphanumeric format.

Issue Date Call number
January 2004 01/04 January
January 7, 2004 01/07/04 January 7
March 2004 03/04 March
June 16, 2004 06/16/04 June 16

We are using the numeric portion of the call number only for sorting purposes so it need not be exact.

August 16-August 30, 2004 08/16/04 August 16-August 30
November/December 2004 11/04 November-December

For quarterly titles, label them as 1 to 4 for the year.

Winter 2004 01/04 Winter
Spring 2004 02/04 Spring

It would be advised to change the existing 2004 issues to this format so they display in sequence.
