Outlook Tips - Correcting old Winnefox contacts in your address book

If you used Microsoft Outlook or Netscape prior to switching you over to using the Exchange server, chances are you have an older address book. If you haven't gone through the old addresses, chances are they are still pointing to incorrect addresses. There are two reasons this is a bad thing. One, when you send an e-mail to the old address, the person you're sending the message to will never get it. Two, it's causing alot of unnecessary traffic to the old Alpha server. I'll step you through how to update your old Winnefox contacts.

How to:

First, you need to go to your address book. Click the Address Book button:

The Address Book you now see is the Global Address Book. This is the main, shared, Winnefox address book. What you want is your personal contact list. To get to that, click on Global Address List in the Show Names from the drop down list. Then, click Contacts, under Outlook Address Book:

After clicking that, you will now be in your personal address book:

What we now want to look at, are the addresses of the people listed. If you notice, the address for Pete Hodge is hodge@winnefox.org. This is incorrect. Also, the address for Keetra is schultz@axp.winnefox.org. Also incorrect.

To change an address, double-click the name you want to modify. This will display the contact information for that person:

The area we're interested in is E-mail. To update the address, click the Address button:

This will display the Global Address List again. Find the name you're looking for, click on the name, and then OK. You will then return to the address card for that person. Now that the contact is corrected, click the Save and Close button:

Now, you will be returned to your personal address book. Rinse, rather, repeat for any contacts you need to update.
